‘Cass Eager’s voice has an alluring timbre and her vocals are sung with the kind of heartfelt sincerity that makes you want to believe in every word she utters. She is obviously the kind of performer who likes her lyrics to be heard and the message in each song is clearly articulated. Each one takes you on a melodic, themed journey, or gives an insight into a character that has presented themselves as an appropriate musical muse. The tempo varies between more upbeat, feelgood tracks, and songs that have an endearing melancholic quality. Several of the songs, like Beautiful Day in particular, will have you singing along pretty much the first time you hear them. Perfect for creating a relaxed intimate ambience. 4 stars’.

"The debut record from Bondi native Cass Eager...there sits something special. It begins with the well dirty slide and harmonica onslaught of 'Take These Wings'. The comparisons to Janis Joplin fly thick and fast...and listening to this track, you can see where that comparison comes from...the way she folds it around the ebullient slide riffs, well, it's pretty bloody good. This is a trend that continues throughout most of the remainder of Beautiful Day. There's some fine guitar work from Eager herself, and as you make the journey from start to end, this is a record which quietly ingratiates itself, inviting itself into your lounge room, curling up on your couch and drinking all your beer...I love it when that happens. This debut record is certainly one which leaves little to be desired."

‘Lying on my back staring up at a cloudless Muskoka sky a smile creeps across my face as the lyrics echo out over the serene lake. ‘Everything’s alright, cause it’s a beautiful day’. Truer words have never been spoken. I think if Cass Eager could choose the setting for me to first hear her debut CD Beautiful Day, this would be it. In between songs the sound of the lake lapping against the dock fills the empty space, but it almost seems like it should be right there on the record. The first couple of songs make the Jack Johnson comparison easy . . . ‘beer drinking chilling at the cottage’ music, and Cass brings that very same energy.
On ‘Take These Wings’ she shows the Bonnie Raitt side of her persona. Bluesy slide guitar and a catchy hook make this rock song move, but the lyrics are what really make it work. ‘I’m gonna take these wings I’m going to fly away. Gonna live my life how I feel. Gonna shed my skin, gonna start today. I’m gonna take these wings, gonna fly away”.
I could definitely see how Janis influenced Cass. She sings her lyrics with a passion often missing in today’s radio-friendly pop stars. Cass brings the emotion, she doesn’t stretch her voice to ranges she can only hit in the studio, or go on crazy runs. She does, however, sound like she really means each word that she sings. She belts out her personal and introspective lyrics in a way only a singer/songwriter can. Other notable songs include the quiet and soulful ‘Sister’ and ‘Lay Your Trust’, the funky ‘I Love You’ and bluesy ‘Falling Your Way’. I thoroughly enjoyed this album, front to back, and will no doubt get a lot of play out of it this summer. It’s just too bad that I don’t get to spend more time at the cottage’.

Cass Eager is a prolific and inventive singer-songwriter. Her voice is gravelly and soulful (called ‘rich as chocolate’ by Australia's ‘Brag’ magazine). On the first listen, I heard elements of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin with a bit of Ani DiFranco thrown in. I downloaded her song "Beautiful Day" onto my iPod and it's become a staple of my morning walk to work. Visit her Web site at www.casseager.com.

‘Beautiful Day is on high rotation in my car and I still get blessed out with each listen. Finally a chick who does it raw and rootsy and plays slide as well. This album takes you on a journey with so many full bodied tracks, from the mesmerizing ‘Sister’ to the dashboard thumping ‘Take These Wings’. It’s a great debut and I can’t wait to see what she does next . . .’ DubMAN II, iTunes
