More gig news for you this month. I'm sure that plenty of you have fought off the lovely autumn flu, and you'll be ready to get out there and strutt some of your lovely stuff with a few unsuspecting punters in tow.
We've got some shows coming up around Sydney with the Chase The Sun lads once again. It's been a real while since we've done some gigs together, so it will be a treat for us and hopefully for you guys as well (seeing as Chase The Sun just won 'Best Live Act' at the Music Oz Awards last night!!!).
This weekend we're goin' down south to the Brass Monkey, Cronulla (the best food!) and Beaches, Thirroul (the best crowds!). Then on Saturday 2 June, we'll be at my favourite Sydney venue, the lovely Vanguard in Newtown (the location of both my album launches, my video shoot, and even my wedding reception!).
Next weekend we're literally chasing the sun up to Broadbeach on the Gold Coast for the Blues on Broadbeach Festival, doing three shows in three days - one with the band and two in duo mode with myself and the lovely Jono 'Slim Hips', 'Hipsy', 'The Hips' and 'Hipstomatic' Dallimore...
Hope to see you at one of these gigs...you all rock. Show details are on teh shows page!
BACK IN THE SADDLE...
16 march 2012
Hi Everyone,
Long time, no news. I guess you've been wondering what I've been up to since my last gig in August. Well, I've been off having babies - one baby in particular, little Henry. He's really cute just like his dad (only without the beard). He's got to the stage where I can put him down for an hour now, so it's time to do some more shows!
Last weekend we did a sneaky set at the lovely Beaches Hotel in Thirroul last Sunday as a kind of warm up show to shake off the cobwebs with the Chase The Sun lads.
This weekend we're heading to Sydney's Blue Mountains for a couple of shows at The Blue Mountains Music Festival in Katoomba, sharing the stage with the likes of Harry Manx, Eric Bibb, Chris Wilson and Blue King Brown, and of course our stablemate Claude Hay.
Then next weekend we're hitting the inner city with a vengeance - at two of our favourite haunts. We're back at the Mac Hotel in Surry Hills on Saturday the 24th, where we'll be joined by special guest Lachy Doley on keyboards. Then it's The Opera Bar down at The Opera House for a Sunday afternoon session with the best view in Sydney as the sun sets over the harbour on the 25th.
Hope to see you at one of these, but if not we're planning on many more opportunities to see you at a show in 2012. Show details here.
LAST SHOWS FOR THE YEAR:
DARLING HARBOUR JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL, THE MAC IN SURRY HILLS, 'FAMILY VACATION TOUR HITS WA, PLUS THE OPERA BAR!
10 june 2011
I've got an exclusive collection of shows on the near horizon before I take a well earned break from the road to concentrate on writing, home recording and generally not getting in the van.
First off I'm guesting with the inimitable Chase The Sun at this weekend's Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival. If the weather holds out this will be a great fun day for the whole family, if you have one.
Then next weekend I'm taking The Velvet Rope down to "Home of Sydney Funk" - The Mac in Surry Hills, where we'll be getting down with some new funky tunes for the aficionados (everyone is welcome though, you don't need a purple jumpsuit and an afro to get in).
The first week of July sees us jet off on the Western Australian leg of the 'Family Vacation Tour', It's been a couple of years since I was last out WA way and I'm really excited about taking the whole band along for the ride this time.
My last show for the year will be at The Opera Bar on July 17 where I'll be joined by 'Slim Hips' Dailimore for one last duo-mode hurrah for 2011.
***EXTRA LAST SHOW FOR THE YEAR ADDED ~
SUNDAY AUGUST 7TH 2011 AT THE OPERA BAR SYDNEY!!! ***
All the show details are on the Shows page, I really hope to see you there.
AUSTRALIAN BLUES MUSIC 'CHAIN' AWARDS NOMINATIONS
1 march 2011
Myself and the lovely Mo' Debleys were nominated for Best Group and Best Female Vocalist at this years Australian Blues Awards.
Also known as the 'Chain' awards, This event is held each year to recognise outstanding albums by Australian blues artists. It just so happens that family members Claude Hay and Chase the Sun are also nominated - we're flying the flag for NSW against the Victorian contingent lead by Ian Collard.
(Well, we didn't win, but Chase The Sun and Claude Hay did though!
And, hey, it's all in the family! Congratulations fellas.)
To make us feel better though, Chris Lambie in Rhythms Magazine voted our new EP 'Down On My Knees' one of his Top Ten Albums of The Year for 2010 so we can keep our heads up!
HEADIN' OUT ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THE FAMILY VACATION SUMMER TOUR...
5 january 2011
I trust that you've all had a safe and happy silly season, I don't know how your new year's resolutions are holding up as 2011 winds into gear, but here's one for you: make the resolution to come and see my shows this year, you know it'll do you good...
We've got a big East Coast tour lined up for the summer. The Velvet Rope and I are jumping in the caravan with label-mates Claude Hay and Chase The Sun for a jaunt up and down the east coast on the ‘Family Vacation Tour'. Although Chase The Sun, Claude and I have played together in various situations (not all of them musical) in the past, The Family Vacation Tour will be the first opportunity we’ve had to tour extensively together as a bonded family unit. So, while each of the acts on the tour might be worth the price of admission on their own, this is a triple-bill to get off the hammock for as it arrives at a holiday hot spot near you.
The tour is kicking off in sunny Kiama Friday 14th January, heads up to QLD (flood waters permitting) and down to VIC until well into February, see below for dates - You know we'd love to see you there!
THE MO' DEBLEYS BRING THE GROOVE BACK TO CHRISTMAS AGAIN WITH SOME MORE 'SANTA'S GOT SOUL!' SHOWS
10 december 2010
Merry Christmas to you all! I hope the year has been a good one for you all as you head into the silly season. 2010 has been a busy year for us - we recorded a new EP, clocked up just a few more miles along the Pacific Highway, and made some new friends on our journeys and at shows and festivals.
Once again we're doing it, groovin' it, gettin' our Christmas funk on with The Mo' Debleys for our 'Santa's Got Soul!' shows this December. Last Saturday we played some of the tunes at Richard Glover's 'Thank God It's Christmas' ABC show to a sold-out crowd at The Seymour Centre.
So if you missed out last Christmas, come get your groove on with The Mo' Debley's and Me!
"The. Best. Soul. Christmas. Album. Ever.
My pick of the Christmas gigs." Kathy McCabe, Sydney Telegraph, Dec 10 2010

BYRON BAY BLUESFEST 2010
10 april 2010
I hope you all had a grand old Easter break and that the bunny was bountiful!
I myself headed up to Bluesfest in Byron to sample the amazing music always on display. I jumped up on stage with the lovely Chase The Sun boys for a sing-a-long on their Friday and Saturday shows, and we even played a new song from my upcoming album. With a 5-day campout and enough music to poke a stick at, a wicked time was had by all. My definite festival favourites this year were BuddyGuy, DrJohn, Rodriguez and Carney and after meeting 3 out of 4 of them I went home a happy girl!
If you didn't make it to Byron this year (or even if you did), never fear because the Blues is coming to Sydney as well in the form of a great tribute to Robert Johnson at The Vanguard this month, featuring an amazing array of some of the finest blues musicians from Sydney & Melbourne, including Dom Turner (Backsliders), Ian Collard (Collard, Greens & Gravy), Suzannah Espie, Don Hopkins, Brett Hunt, Spencer Jones, Jeremy Edwards and Johnny Cass....Details on the Shows Page here, really hope to see you out and about...much love. BY
CASS EAGER AND THE MO' DEBLEYS BRINGIN' THE GROOVE BACK TO CHRISTMAS!
15th november 2009
There was a time in music’s dim distant past when Christmas albums were considered cool… when everyone from Charlie Parker, Elvis Presley, The Beatles and The Jackson 5 got generations out of their seats on Christmas day. With Cass’ smooth-as-honey leading vocals backed by the Mo’ Debleys (sounding like they came out of the Stax Records backlot!) this is Christmas like you’ve never heard before...groovy baby!”- Charlie Villas, SBA Music.

. . . WA, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!
12th dec 2007
Cass Eager and The In-Laws have been playing up and down the NSW coast over the past month, and ripping it up! In November, they headed over to WA for another leg of their 'Beautiful Days' tour. Thanks to everyone who made the tour a cracker!
We'll see you next time!
"The debut record from Bondi native Cass Eager...there sits something special. It begins with the well dirty slide and harmonica onslaught of 'Take These Wings'. The comparisons to Janis Joplin fly thick and fast...and listening to this track, you can see where that comparison comes from...the way she folds it around the ebullient slide riffs, well, it's pretty bloody good.
This is a trend that continues throughout most of the remainder of Beautiful Day. There's some fine guitar work from Eager herself, and as you make the journey from start to end, this is a record which quietly ingratiates itself, inviting itself into your lounge room, curling up on your couch and drinking all your beer...I love it when that happens. This debut record is certainly one which leaves little to be desired."
Sam Fell, RHYTHMS Magazine OCT 2007

BEAUTIFUL DAY IN AUSTRALIA
10th april 2007
With a busy year of touring behind her, Cass Eager's debut album, ‘Beautiful Day’, will be available in Australia on April 14th 2007. The album is a stunning collection of tunes spanning soul to blues, folk to gospel, roots to reggae.
Tracks Magazine has given it 4 stars . . . ‘Cass Eager’s voice has an alluring timbre and her vocals are sung with the kind of heartfelt sincerity that makes you want to believe in every word she utters. She is obviously the kind of performer who likes her lyrics to be heard and the
message in each song is clearly articulated. Each one takes you on a melodic, themed journey,
or gives an insight into a character that has presented themselves as an appropriate musical muse. The tempo varies between more upbeat, feelgood tracks, and songs that have an endearing melancholic quality. Several of the songs, like Beautiful Day in particular, will have
you singing along pretty much the first time you hear them. Perfect for creating a relaxed intimate ambience’.
Recorded with her band, Jan Rynsaardt (guitar), Paul Searles (keys), Karl Willebrandt (bass)
and Dave Marsalis (drums), Cass also has some special guests on the album, including Wayne Goodwin on strings (Emmy Lou Harris / Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) and Mahalia Barnes on backing vocals. The first single from the album, 'Beautiful Day', debuted at #27 on the US Roots Music Report, TX (Feb 2007), and has just been added to Nova Sydney 96.9FM (March 2007).
